CIVE-352
Introduction to Water Resources Engineering

Not Very Hard
This class wasn't bad, if you like water resources it is probably even better.

There are 3 tests total (including the final), all are open book open notes. None are cumulative. If you get some old tests, all of these should be a breeze. The only thing you have to watch out for is that Stansbury likes to take off points. Don't expect pity points for an answer you didn't know how to do and fudged.

As far as homework goes, its easy. The answers are mostly in the back of the book. The labs he assigns are easy as well. Remember to write them in formal lab format, even if he may say not to do that at the beginning. He will take off for "quick" labs later in the year.

Finally, the last component of this class is to develop a storm water management design for an imaginary site. If you have someone in your lab group that has a WR job already, this is very beneficial. Otherwise, it may be harder to understand because Stansbury doesn't explain it much.

My last piece of advice is pay attention to the stories Stansbury tells, especially if they have to do with flooding or ground water laws, there will be questions on the test about it.

Fundamentals of Water Quality and Modeling

Decent Course
This course requires more work than most of Stansbury's courses. The content in this course is just at a different level. A lot of chemistry. A lot of time on the homework. A lot of time in his office for this class and it was all of us. If you actually take the time to learn the material and understand the homework, the first 2 tests are a breeze. Just make sure you read the chapters he assigns even if there isn't any homework over it because on the second tests he asked a few questions and we were all kind of searching for it in the wrong places so just read all the chapters and know where to find the info.

The project for this semester was a WASP model. Stansbury just expected that everyone know what he was expecting on this. It's essentially just a shot in the dark. We all had no idea what we were doing and I don't think he even knew the model well enough to expect us to do it. I think we all spent a lot of time in his office just asking for help. I took away nothing from that project.

Unfortunately, the last 3rd of the final (which is like a normal exam) is all WASP questions which I didn't think was fair considering how little we actually did that in class. Just refer to the handouts he gives you, the answers are buried in there.

Otherwise, good course. Stansbury is usually very reasonable if you all approach him with concerns or for help.

Water Resources Development

Decent Course
Relatively easy course if you've taken the intro class. Homework wasn't too bad with the exception of 2 of them. But Stansbury is always in his office for help and usually willing to give it.

The only problem is that there isn't really a book with this class. You will use the Gupta book for the first test but after that it's pretty much just notes so make sure Stansbury gives a lot of examples and ask questions and take good notes. I think everyone did relatively well on all of his tests/homework. The only problem was the final. Just like the intro class, he gave WAY too little time on the final. But I think he figured it out because it looks like we all did well anyways.
