ENGL-3980
Technical Writing Across the Disciplines

Even though this class really sucks, most who take it have to. With that in mind, let me just say that Hronek isn't as terrible a teacher as most reviews will probably say.

She knows a lot about what she teaches and she's fairly good at teaching it.

Homework is easy. Usually it consists of something like a cover letter or memo attached to an outline or something of that sort. You do need to make sure you get all of your points though - it isn't difficult.

There are no tests. The bulk of your semester grade is in a 15 page paper due at the end of the semester. The hardest part about the paper is picking a topic because she's really picky about what you can write about. Make sure you do put some time and effort into this paper though, otherwise you'll end up retaking the class.

Hronek has a really bad habit of going on insane, pointless tangents. Usually she tries to justify her ridiculous rules by pointing out a situation that happened to her in the past. It ends up taking most of class time by the end. In fact, very little of what she says during class is valuable information. Attendance is graded though, so you'll need to keep the number of lectures you skip to a minimum.

It helps to take this class with a few students you know because a few projects depend on your classmates.

This class isn't too bad. It's a pain to go through, but a fairly easy grade. The teacher knows what she is talking about and has a pretty impressive resume. She does have a way of boring you to death sometimes, but I think that has a lot to do with the course. The class consists of writing a 15 page paper basically. Go to class, learn how she wants the paper, write the paper and you have a fairly easy grade. Make sure you leave it to the last night, it's a lot more fun that way ;).

Sherri knows her material, as she has been teaching this class FOREVER. I was scared on the first day as she outline all of the projects and what was needed. If you are the type of person who will not put any effort in a class, Sherri is NOT the instructor for you. This class required more effort than any class I've taken before. The projects are very labor-intensive and it requires a great deal of time to put together a well-written document by the end of the semester. If you put the time and effort in, you will be rewarded.

I took the class online. There were no tests or quizzes, just homework due about every week. She posted powerpoints on blackboard that were way to long to sit and listen too. There was homework due about every week, most of which was very long and boring assignments. Final paper is 15 pages single spaced, and a 20 minute powerpoint presentation. Since this class was online, we did not have to give the presentation to the class. We had to either narrate the powerpoint or provide detailed notes. Class has extremely large amount of homework that was not helpful. Grading wasn't too bad, however it seemed like at least half of the original class dropped the class.
