Reviews For John Clark
CSCI-1620
Introduction to Computer Science II
His is an enjoyable Teacher. He knows his course material very well. However, when going to get help on an assignment, if considerable effort has not been put into trying to solve the problem he will typically yell/lecture you. He also goes off on many, many tangents every class, sometimes it is just annoying.
Overall, I would say he is someone everyone should take because he gives a realistic picture of what would be tolerated on a real life project.

There is no doubt that Clark knows his material. He can teach it decently, but goes on many tangents. Some of which are entertaining, though many sound like tall tales and not believable. The problem is if you have a question, rest assured he will make you feel stupid. The bottom line is that I'm a better programmer thanks to Clark.

Fun, but challenging
John is a great instructor. He knows his material extremely well. He is very personable and fun to joke with. Yes, he does go off on random tangents in class, but that's what makes it fun, right? You will learn a LOT from John if you take his 1620 course. If you intend on taking Data Structures (3320) or any other higher-level computer programming course, I strongly encourage you to take John. He will teach you what you need to know. Be prepared to work hard though!

Great Teacher
This was John's first attempt at teaching the Java version of 1620. So while we didn't get into things such as generics as much, we did learn a great deal about java and especially how to research properly (since there's a method for pretty much anything). I never used his office hours during this semester, but the availability he had was a good amount.
In class, make sure you know what you're talking about before you start yammering. He will call you out if you don't know what you're talking about. Besides that, it's better to look like an idiot and learn than to have a teacher stroke your ego and be just as stupid as when you started.
Since he doesn't use a book, it is a bit difficult to study for the exams (just midterm and final), but if you know what you are doing in the assignments, you'll do fine on them.

Advanced Topics in C
John Clark was the professor you used to take when you wanted to be an awesome programmer.
Programs were pretty difficult, especially since Clark is the kind of professor that throws you in the deep end and tells you to learn to swim. You'll ask for help, and he'll act like you're a complete moron.
Nevertheless, Clark made me a better programmer. Class was pretty informal, as easily half of is was spent talking about Assassin's Creed or stories about previous jobs he's had. Never boring.
