Reviews For James Carroll
CHEM-1180
General Chemistry I
I highly do not recommend taking a class with this professor. He is smart and knows a lot about chemistry but he has no idea how to teach it. His lectures do not prepare you for the tests neither does the homework because the questions on the test are not like what you see on the assigned homework. There is a lot of group homework throughout the semester so make sure you pick a good group at the beginning if you do have to take this class.

Avoid
He's an incredibly intelligent man who has no idea how to communicate that to students. He makes concepts confusing. Often, he'll be a quarter of the way through the class before the class really knows what he's teaching. His tests do not look like the homework or the work from the book. Halfway through the semester, I started tuning him out and doing self-study on the subjects he chose and I did loads better. If you try to follow his methods, you'll be wasting your time. He does curve the grading for the test pretty generously but the curve wouldn't be needed if he knew how to teach better. Try to get on a cycle that avoids Dr. Carroll for Chem I and Chem II. I wish I had because now I'm stuck with him for Chem II.
