Dr. Buchelt is an awesome teacher. She really knows how to get students involved and work with the limited experience/knowledge most students have of literature. She is really good at steering a discussion in the right directions and generally the discussions were lively. However, some may have had trouble with her grading as it pretty much was contingent upon paper grades. Most college students have problems/are afraid of writing. Otherwise, the course was fun and I received my expected A.

Great Class, Great Teacher
This class was probably my best experience with a humanities class (being an engineer its hard to find those).

There were only about 15 people in my class and we all became friends by the end of the year.

Basically, there are only 4 assignments in the entire class. Two papers (a 5-6 page and a 8-10 page), a work shopping presentation for the 8 page paper (which wasn't formal at all, it was discussion based), and participation points.

The papers are written on the books read in class which included (for our class) Dante's Inferno, The Lais of Marie de France, the Song of Roland, some Norse and Irish tales, Les Liaisons Dangereous, etc. Most books are French because Buchelt fluently speaks French and enjoys French culture. I enjoyed all the books personally.

Class consists of discussion on the books read. Basically, class is your way to figure out what you want to write you papers about. We had some really good discussions in class, to me it felt like a book club more than anything else.

This class is HIGHLY recommended.
