PSYC-4440
Abnormal Psychology

On the first day of class, she will come off incredibly intimidating and make the class sound very difficult. Don't get scared and drop. This is basically her way of weeding out the lazy students to get them to drop so the students that are willing to put in time will stay. There is a group research project that takes basically the entire second half of the semester, so be prepared to have extra time outside of class for you group. Her exams are somewhat difficult. It is multiple-choice, with a mixture of definitions and conceptual questions, so you really need to read and pay attention during lectures. She does take attendance for a grade. She recommends buying the DSM-IV book at the beginning of class and it is very helpful, especially if you are a psych major. I did not buy one, but just make sure someone in your group has one for your paper. I ended up buying one right before the final because you WILL need it for the final, and I just returned it after. She is available to answer questions via email and office hours and does tell a lot of stories about her real life experiences with being a clinician herself. It does take a lot of time and reading for this class, but you will really learn a lot.

Online class
Professor Anderson's online version of this class is just as informative.
While she isn't very lenient with late grades, the online version is much more forgiving. There are videos to watch and take tests on, there are pre-chapter tests and after-chapter exams- this class can be a lot of work if you get behind.
But the tests can be retaken, and the same with the video quizzes, until you get the grade you want, as long as you have everything submitted by the due date. There are no projects, but there is an end-of-semester paper to write.
Great class for distance-ed, or someone with a busy schedule who likes working at their own pace.
